Marriage License Information and Fees

Marriage License Application

  • Saluda County Probate Court does not perform marriage ceremonies.
  • Marriage license fees must be paid at the time of application.
  • Applicants are required to appear together to file the marriage application to obtain a marriage license.
  • There is a mandatory 24-hour waiting period after the application is filed before the licenses can be picked up and the parties can be married.
  • Applicants must provide either a valid government-issued ID, such as a driver's license, state ID card, military ID or passport. Both applicants are required to provide their Social Security card or Resident Alien Identification card.
  • Applicants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by consenting parents/guardians. A marriage license will not be issued if either applicant is under the age of 16.
  • The ceremony may only be performed by ministers of the Gospel, Jewish rabbis, officers authorized to administer oaths in this State, and the chief or spiritual leader of a Native American Indian entity recognized by the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs pursuant to Section 1-31-40 are authorized to administer a marriage ceremony in this State.
  • The ceremony must take place in South Carolina, but not necessarily within the county of Saluda.

To Obtain a Copy of a Marriage License

Please provide the following information:

  1. Names of both parties (which includes the bride's maiden name)
  2. Date or year of marriage
  3. Daytime phone number

Marriage License Fees and Costs

  • Marriage License Correction: $6.75
  • Marriage License Re-issuance: $6.75
  • Copy of Marriage Certificate (copy paper): $1.00
  • Court Certified Copy of Marriage License for years 2000-current (gold Court seal): $5.00
  • Court Certified Copy of Marriage License for years 1911 - 1999 (gold Court seal): $10.00
  • Applying/or Marriage License: $45.00

NOTE: We only have marriage licenses that were issued in Saluda County. If you applied for your marriage license in another county, you will need to contact that county.
